This Jet Black variety measures a 5 on the Mohs scale. Every natural material has a varying amount of ingredients. This particular one happens to have less talc, making it a harder variety. Its a perfect option for kitchen countertops. Soapstones with a higher content of Talc are better for fireplaces, because Talc is what retains temperature.
