Size
The typical size of a soapstone slabs can go from 60” x 108”- 80″ x 127″ (5-6.5 feet by 8-10.5 feet). The most common thickness on the West coast is 3cm (1-1/4” thick). The size of the slab is determined by the density of the stone and of course the size of the machinery the quarry uses.
Soapstone weighs between 21-24 lbs per square foot; depending on the density. It’s on average 3 pounds a square foot heavier than granite!
I teach wilderness survival to Scouts here near Everett. This next spring I am putting together an open fire/backcountry cooking class. Do you ever have smaller pieces of soapstone, similar to the cutout size for a sink, leftover for sale, or even abnormal broken pieces? I am looking for something I can set up between a few larger stones on a keyhole fire pit, and use it as my cooking platform.
Thanks
Hello! We’re looking for a soapstone slab for our fireplace. It is 4.5ft x 7ft. How much would a slab that size cost? It doesn’t need to be the hardest stone because it is ornamental.
Thanks,
Meghan
I must admit that this is one great insight. It surely gives a company the opportunity to get in on the ground floor and really take part in creating something special and tailored to their needs.
